The amount of money you place on a wager should be directly correlated to the star rating.  You can set this however you want.  However, as I stressed before money management is the most important thing in betting and winning not just in one week but over a prolonged period of time.  What I would suggest is figuring out what your bank roll is.  For example we will use $1,000 as a players bank roll.  I recommend that you should never bet over your head which in this case your typical bets should be 2.5% of your bank roll which is $25.  Depending on the strength of play you would want to increase your wager amount.

Game Rating system is simple 1 unit is equal to what ever amount you are willing to risk.  1 unit means different things to everyone but for example a 100 dollars for 1 unit is a common industry standard.  The higher the unit the higher the edge is for a game so if I have a 7 unit pick put 700 on it or whatever your unit is worth to you.  I normally stay between 1-10 units with normal is about a 2 unit play.  A 1 unit play would be good advice and information with the highest 10 being the game of the year.
